Turkey (Meleagaris gallopavo) is mostly reared for meat purpose and considered as an alternative to chicken. Turkey birds grow very rapidly but are not efficient converters of feed to meat.
Objectives:
• Assess polymorphism patterns of candidate-ins genes related to growth and feed efficiency.
• Study gastro-intestinal microbial population dynamics.
• Identify gene markers & microbiome taxonomy for selection programmes.
Expected Output:
• Molecular breeding for improved feed efficiency.
• Genotype-index development.
• Identification of microbial strains supporting gut health.
• Isolation of probiotic strain suitable for feeding.
